Legal resumes are conservative by design. Firms and corporate legal teams expect clear admissions, practice areas, and evidence you can manage deadlines and documents without drama.

Structure firms expect
Contact, admissions / jurisdictions, summary, experience, education, skills/tools. Put bar or court admissions early. Name practice areas the way the JD spells them (litigation, commercial, employment, property).
Document management systems (iManage, NetDocuments) and research tools belong in skills when you used them — empty keyword lists fail interviews. Use solicitor / attorney titles that match the market you are applying to.
Confidentiality-safe bullets
Describe matter types and your role — discovery sets, contract first drafts under supervision, filing checklists, limitation-date tracking — never client identities or privileged strategy.
Graduate and intern CVs should lead with clerkships, clinics, mooting, and writing strength. Retail or hospitality jobs can sit under additional experience as reliability proof, not as the lead story.

Common mistakes
Naming clients or matters that identify parties.
Decorative two-column templates that look informal to firm recruiters.
Claiming "legal advice" for work done as a student or paralegal without supervision context.
Omitting admission status or jurisdiction when applying across borders.
